My Story

I’m Jala T. Watkins — founder of Hooked n Rooted, U.S. Army veteran, crochet artist, and herbal tea maker. This business wasn’t born out of a dream to “start a brand.” It was born out of necessity — out of a journey to reclaim peace after war, and to rebuild myself, one stitch and one sip at a time.

After serving in the Army, I returned home carrying wounds that couldn’t be seen — PTSD, anxiety, and depression. For a long time, it felt like the world kept spinning while I was stuck in survival mode. I tried everything: medications, therapy, silence, even denial. But true peace came in the quietest of ways — through the repetitive rhythm of a crochet hook and the grounding comfort of herbal tea.

Crocheting helped still my racing mind. Tea rituals helped me sleep. Both gave me something war had taken: a sense of safety, calm, and self-connection.

That healing turned into Hooked n Rooted — a space where I turn pain into purpose. Every handcrafted crochet piece is made with intention and care. Every herbal tea blend is rooted in my belief that nature carries medicine — not just for the body, but for the soul. This business is more than a shop. It’s a testimony. A love letter to resilience. A daily practice in staying grounded.

Hooked n Rooted is for anyone seeking comfort, whether you’re navigating mental health struggles, stress, or just life. It’s for fellow veterans, trauma survivors, overthinkers, and overcomers. It’s for those who need a reminder that healing isn’t loud or fast — it’s quiet, slow, and made with your own two hands.

I’m honored to share what helped save me. From my heart to yours — welcome to Hooked n Rooted.
